1. (b) 4,797 crores

The Central Government has allocated approximately Rs 4,797 crore for the PRITHVI VIGYAN scheme. The scheme consists of five ongoing sub-schemes, including Atmosphere and Climate Research-Modeling Observational Systems and Services (ACROSS), Ocean Services, Modeling Applications, Resources and Technology (O-SMART), etc. The objective of the Prithvi scheme is to enhance long-term observations of the atmosphere and ocean.

2. (c) West Bengal

As a part of the National GI Drive Mission, ‘Kadiyal Sarees’ of West Bengal have been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Along with this, some other products of West Bengal have been given GI tag which includes Sundarban honey, Black Nunia rice from Jalpaiguri district and Tangail, and Gorod. West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited has applied for a special GI tag for Sundarban honey.

3. (c) P Santosh

Canara Bank Chief General Manager P Santosh has been appointed as the new Managing Director of National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL). He has replaced Natarajan Sundar who recently resigned from the post. Canara Bank is the sponsor bank of NARCL with more than 10 percent stake. Public sector banks are the major shareholders of NARCL. NARCL is a government unit, it was established in the year 2021.

4. (b) Dinesh K Tripathi

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi officially assumed the role of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff. Earlier he was serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command. Vice Admiral Tripathi joined the Indian Navy on 1 July 1985. Presently the Chief of the Indian Naval Staff is Admiral R. This is Hari Kumar.    

5. (a) Justice BR Gavai

Supreme Court judge, Justice BR Gavai has been nominated as the Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Justice Gavai has replaced senior judge Justice Sanjeev Khanna.  

6. (c) Arvind Panagariya

The Central Government appointed former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Arvind Panagariya as the Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission. IAS officer Ritwik Ranjanam Pandey has been appointed Secretary of the Commission. Last month, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the 16th Finance Commission. The Finance Commission is constituted under Article 280 of the Constitution of India.

7. (c) United Arab Emirates

The joint military exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ of India and the United Arab Emirates is being organized in Mahajan, Rajasthan which will end on January 15. In this, 45 soldiers of Zayed First Brigade are participating from UAE side. Exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ will further strengthen mutual cooperation between India and UAE.

8. (b) 4 years

Recently, India began its four-year term as a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission. It is the supreme body of the global statistical system. It was established in the year 1947. This commission includes 24 member countries of the United Nations. India last became a member of the Statistical Commission in 2004.

9. (c) Gujarat

Gujarat government is going to start the country’s first submarine tourism. This project has been started around Bet Dwarka, a small island off the coast of Dwarka city. For this, Gujarat Government has joined hands with Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL). This project is likely to start before Diwali 2024. The weight of this tourist submarine will be approximately 35 tons and its capacity will be to carry 30 passengers.

10. (b) Mathura

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first Sainik School for girls ‘Samvid Gurukulam’ Sainik School in Vrindavan, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. The government had taken the initiative to establish 100 new such Sainik Schools in the year 2019, out of which 42 schools have been established. Under this, partnerships have been made with NGOs/private/state government schools.
