1. (b) Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several beneficial projects in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi. In this series, PM Modi also inaugurated the world’s largest meditation center Swarved Mahamandir. It is a 7-storey meditation center which is the largest in the world. The newly constructed Swaraveda Mahamandir is spread over 3 lakh square feet. In this centre, 20 thousand people can participate in yoga sessions simultaneously.

2. (d) Kuwait

After the demise of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Indian Government had announced one-day state mourning on Sunday (December 17). Amir died on Saturday at the age of 86. The Union Home Ministry had sent a message regarding this to all the states. Kuwait is a Gulf country, its capital is ‘Kuwait City’.    

3. (a) Nathan Lyon

Australia’s experienced spinner Nathan Lyon has become the 8th bowler in the world to take 500 or more wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in the Perth Test against Pakistan. He has become the third bowler from Australia to take 500 or more wickets. From Australia, only Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563) are ahead of him.

International Migrants Day is celebrated every year on 18 December. This day is celebrated to appreciate the important contribution made in solving the challenges faced by the migrants. The theme of International Migrants Day 2023 is “Promoting Safe Migration”. Celebrating it was started in the year 2000.

5. (c) Reuven Azar

The Israeli government recently approved the appointment of Reuven Azar as the new Ambassador to India. The Israeli Foreign Ministry also said in a statement that Reuven will also serve as non-resident ambassador to Sri Lanka and Bhutan. Azar currently serves as Israel’s Ambassador to Romania. He will replace Naor Gillon, who has been serving as Israel’s Ambassador to India since 2021.

6. (c) Sheikh Hasan Khan

Kerala government employee Sheikh Hasan Khan has conquered Antarctica’s highest peak ‘Mount Vinson’. This is the fifth highest peak conquered by him. Mount Vinson is 4,892 meters (16,050 ft) above sea level. Apart from Mount Vinson, Khan has conquered four other high peaks, Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe.

7. (d) Hardik Pandya

Mumbai franchise of IPL has appointed all-rounder Hardik Pandya as its new captain. Experienced opener Rohit Sharma, who was removed from the captaincy, was the captain of Mumbai since 2013. In between, he had won five IPL trophies for Mumbai Indians. It is noteworthy that recently Mumbai had made a trade deal with Gujarat team for Hardik Pandya.
