1. (b) Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami will be honored with the country’s prestigious sports award Arjuna Award for his outstanding performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the National Sports Awards 2023. 26 players including Shami will be honored with Arjun Award. This award will be presented by the President in a specially organized ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9 next year.

2. (c) Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways recently said that 1467 projects of the National Highway Authority of India have been brought under the Bhoomi Rashi portal. It is an e-governance initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Its objective is to speed up the process of land acquisition for national highways.

3. (a) Indigo

Indian airline IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to carry 100 million passengers in a year. IndiGo has become India’s largest airline after carrying 100 million passengers in the year 2023. Indigo has started its flights on 20 new international routes in the last six months. InterGlobe Aviation Limited, doing business as IndiGo, is headquartered in Gurgaon.

4. (d) Poonam Khetrapal Singh

Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia, has been awarded Bhutan’s prestigious National Order of Merit Gold Medal for distinguished services. Poonam is a retired IAS officer of Punjab cadre. Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck honored him at the 116th National Day celebrations of Bhutan.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the National Sports Awards 2023. These awards will be presented by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 09, 2024. This time Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award will be given to badminton players Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty and Rankireddy Satwik Sai Raj. This time 26 players will be honored with the Arjuna Award.          

6. (a) Sunrisers Hyderabad

Australian captain Pat Cummins created history in the IPL auction. Cummins has become the second most expensive selling player in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought the Australian captain with a base price of Rs 2 crore for Rs 20.5 crore. Whereas Mitchell Starc was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore (about 2,982,000 US dollars), which is the most expensive player till date.

7. (b) Raman Singh

Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the State Assembly. Chief Minister Vinshu Dev Sai proposed to elect 71-year-old Raman Singh as the speaker, which was supported by Deputy CM Arun Sao. Raman Singh has won Rajnandgaon seat four consecutive times in 2008, 2013, 2018 and 2023.  

8. (b) Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several beneficial projects in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi. In this series, PM Modi also inaugurated the world’s largest meditation center Swarved Mahamandir. It is a 7-storey meditation center which is the largest in the world. The newly constructed Swaraveda Mahamandir is spread over 3 lakh square feet. In this centre, 20 thousand people can participate in yoga sessions simultaneously.

9. (a) Nathan Lyon

Australia’s experienced spinner Nathan Lyon has become the 8th bowler in the world to take 500 or more wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in the Perth Test against Pakistan. He has become the third bowler from Australia to take 500 or more wickets. From Australia, only Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563) are ahead of him.

10. (c) Sheikh Hasan Khan

Kerala government employee Sheikh Hasan Khan has conquered Antarctica’s highest peak ‘Mount Vinson’. This is the fifth highest peak conquered by him. Mount Vinson is 4,892 meters (16,050 ft) above sea level. Apart from Mount Vinson, Khan has conquered four other high peaks, Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe.
