The Central Government appointed former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Arvind Panagariya as the Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission. IAS officer Ritwik Ranjanam Pandey has been appointed Secretary of the Commission. Last month, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the 16th Finance Commission. The Finance Commission is constituted under Article 280 of the Constitution of India.

2. (c) United Arab Emirates

The joint military exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ of India and United Arab Emirates is being organized in Mahajan, Rajasthan which will end on January 15. In this, 45 soldiers of Zayed First Brigade are participating from UAE side. Exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ will further strengthen mutual cooperation between India and UAE.

3. (c) B.R. Kamboj

Chaudhary Charan Singh, Vice Chancellor of Haryana Agricultural University, Professor B.R. Kamboj received the prestigious M.S. Has been awarded the Swaminathan Award. Kamboj was given this award for his contribution as a scientist and extension specialist in the field of agricultural science. Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot presented him this award.

4. (a) Nagendra Singh

Lieutenant General Nagendra Singh recently took command of the Chetak Corps as the 34th General Officer Commanding. He replaces Lieutenant General Sanjeev Rai, who retires on December 31, 2023, after a stint of more than a year in the Chetak Corps. General Singh was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment in 1989 and is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

5. (a) Sudhansh Pant

Current Union Health Secretary and 1991 batch IAS officer Sudhansh Pant has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Rajasthan. Pant is currently the Health and Family Welfare Secretary in the Central Government and has previously served as the Shipping Secretary. Over the last five years, Pant has played an active role in drafting several important bills.

6. (b) Ravindra Kumar Tyagi

Ravindra Kumar Tyagi has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation, owned by the Ministry of Power. Tyagi will replace Srikanth Kandikuppa who retired recently. Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is a central public sector undertaking owned by the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

7. (b) 4 years

Recently, India began its four-year term as a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission. It is the supreme body of the global statistical system. It was established in the year 1947. This commission includes 24 member countries of the United Nations. India last became a member of the Statistical Commission in 2004.
