According to the data unveiled by the Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar in the ‘Council of States’, i.e. Rajya Sabha; India is not only affected by School Dropout students, but a large number of OBC, ST, and SC students tend to leave colleges and universities amid their Academic Session.

The data was released in the form of a written answer wherein; 25,000 aspirants layabout the creamy educational institutes of India, that includes IITs, IIMs, and Central Universities. This colossal number of dropouts from Higher Institutes is indicative of the paucity of the educational system of the nation. Such a situation is alarming as the educational system through this huge number of dropouts, that has been portrayed by the GoI, mirrors the system as not being ‘inclusive’ in nature. An inclusive set-up is a mandate, especially for the teaching-learning process.

The administration was questioned about the number of SC, ST, and OBC applicants who dropped out of IITs, IIMs, and other central universities in the previous five years by Tiruchi Siva, a member of the Indian Parliament who represents Tamil Nadu. She also wanted to know “whether Government has conducted any study regarding the reasons for the high dropout rate of OBCs, SCs, and STs students in these higher educational institutions”.
