Due to severe rainfall, the district administrations of Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa have declared a school holiday. In some places, the southwest monsoon is increasing strength. Schools are closed today in the Karnataka district of Dakshina Kannada and the Kerala district of Kannur. Students and parents are encouraged to stay in touch with their schools for further information. Today is also a holiday for all schools in Goa, according to the state administration. Today, July 6, all schools from the first to the twelfth grades will be closed. The IMD has also forecast heavy to extremely heavy rain in the state.
The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Mumbai and a red’ alert for Raigad. An ‘orange’ notice implies that heavy to very heavy rainfall is highly possible in a few spots, whilst a red alert suggests the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. The Raigad district received 70% of the average June rainfall of 459 mm. So far in July, the district has received 708.4 mm, or 22.5 percent of the average annual rainfall (3,148 mm).
Six districts have issued an ‘orange’ alert, and 11 districts have declared a holiday for educational institutions. Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Idukki have all received an ‘orange’ alert in Kerala.
In Karnataka, Officials reported on Wednesday that two persons were killed in separate accidents in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts in all three coastal Karnataka districts. The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations scheduled a holiday for Anganwadis, elementary and secondary schools, and pre-university colleges on July 5.
